The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/28/23

Posted on the 29 December 2023 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

The exciting TV news for the day? Night Court has axed Neil. of course, with my limited time, I was planning on axing Night Court anyway. Also, expect even less day and date releases in 2023, since the strikes pushed back a lot of films on the 2023 calendar. Now they are worried that 2023 could be a really slow year at the movies. Well, maybe you should have stopped trying to replace everyone with AI.

1) Neon (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Santi pushes his crew further away as he chooses his fake alliance with a superstar instead. The dangerous drug lord lady was right. He should be making this on his own.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Lessons In Chemistry (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

Mad is still trying to find out information on her dad, which is apparently a bombshell dropped at the end of this episode. Meanwhile, her mom is dealing with a station boss who thinks he has the power, but really Elizabeth’s ratings are too high for him to do anything to her. There’s a peaceful protest broken up violently by cops, and we see why Elizabeth no longer speaks to her parents.

Episode Grade: A+

3) Fellow Travelers (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

Tim is part of an activist group fighting against the Vietnam war when he gets caught, and in legal trouble. hawk tries to help for a while, but Tim sees that Hawk has this family he’s built for himself, and hawk’s son Jackson really needs an understanding father, not one who is checked out or enraged. Meanwhile, Lucy reveals she’s not as nice as we might have thought.

Episode Grade: A

4) The Other Black Girl (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

After this finale that didn’t feel like a finale, I searched and found out they were planning a second season. I have no idea what that would look like, but Hulu hasn’t renewed it yet. I’m now left a little unsatisfied, as I really thought they would wrap this up in one season, and it would be tight, and great. This hanging finale is betting Hulu will keep it around, which Hulu doesn’t do a lot. Especially to series with black leads. Just saying.

Episode Grade: B+

5) chucky (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Still Going

Well, Tiffany stole the show a bit from Chucky. Tiffany’s revenge, and her plan to get out of jail, was far more interesting (though implausible) than Chucky’s grand plan to have a mass murder at the White House. his voodoo God still hates him, and he has far exceeded the amount of people needed. guess the White House wasn’t an evil enough location. I’m not really sure anyone truly important of the new characters died this episode.

Episode Grade: B

6) 911 (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Season 7 Coming In Spring 2024

I’m still in season 4, so I have got to catch up. Athena did a wellness check on a house where the alarm keeps going off and then being reset. That was interesting. Also, I’m a bit surprised the episode didn’t stop when Christopher wasn’t in his room. That very much felt like… to be continued. but they continued anyway. Meh. These middle seasons need audio description.

Episode Grade: unwatchable

7) Dinosaurs (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Hey look! I made it to the Season 3 premiere! The baby gets lost down the toilet. that’s the big plot here.

Episode Grade: B-

8) Happy Endings (Roku)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

And this was the final episode of Season 1. I loved the tag, where Brad steals the final cookie from a kid and then mocks him. This series is hilarious and absurd, and deserved a much longer run. It also deserves audio description, and Roku should look into committing more to audio description in 2024.

Episode Grade: B+

8) Adventure Time (MAX)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

I believe if you thought the franchise was big enough to warrant sequel series and movies and such, you should describe the original series. that’s why I keep bringing up Adventure Time, even though this is my first time through, I understand it made a zeitgeist impact, and MAX continues to milk it for content. Kids deserve audio description too, and blind and visually impaired people younger than I who grew up on this deserve to rewatch their favorite show with audio description. That being said, a vampire keeps stealing things, eventually stealing Jake! Oh no!

Episode Grade: B-

10) Cheers (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Another classic that deserves to be audio described, as Paramount continues to milk Frasier. This episode actually revolved around Frasier and his plans to have Lillith move in.

Episode Grade: B

11) Justified: City primeval (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

I don’t get the third episode. Raylon could tell who Clement’s mark was, but they didn’t intervene. So, Clement just does his thing? And I really do hope that annoying daughter of his is gone. Why is she 15 and sounds like a five year old? How is this a thing?

Episode Grade: B-

11) Desperate housewives (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Another friendly reminder that this massive cast dramady has no audio description, despite being a massive success for ABC. This episode, Susan became mike’s alibi, Gaby is blackmailed, and Brie finds out which one of her kids has a condom.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable
