The Surprise Proposal

By Lovegetssweeter @LoveGetsSweeter

This week, in the run up to Valentines day, the TV schedule has been flooded with some amazing wedding programmes showing off some incredible surprise proposals. From ‘The Wedding Proposal‘ on Channel 4 to the ‘Don’t Tell the Bride:The Proposals‘ that is on BBC 3 right this minute, they have all got me thinking. How wonderful would it be to capture that special moment on film? I spend most days wiping happy tears away watching special moments at weddings, moments you can’t recreate or stage and ones that will bring a happy tear to your eye year after year. Whether that’s a the moment our handsome Groom see his beautiful Bride walking down the aisle or the look a proud Dad gives his Daughter during his speech….they get me every time! I can’t tell you how incredible it can be having all this captured for a professional wedding film!

Ok, so not everyone wants to do something as grand or extravagant as these couples have done (you wouldn’t find me absailing off St Pancreas Stations ceiling). I actually planned to propose myself, I had paid in £10 a week to Ernest Jones for months just in time for our 1 year anniversary (minimum wage at 18 doesn’t get you much) which we would be celebrating in Spain. On the day I just couldn’t pluck up the courage, I vaguely remember saying something about it being an eternity ring?! It turned out I nearly beat Lee to it as he had the same idea! He had my ring hidden in his pants (the ring box was too obvious in his pocket apparently?!)  and after a bit of persuading he got me on to the moonlit beach to get down on one knee. Now, with all the nerves of my failed proposal and the adrenaline from the proposal now in front of me I couldn’t really tell you what happened apart from the obvious, I said yes! Just like our wedding day it passed by in a blur and nearly 9 years on each little memory I have is slipping away-I even refused to throw away the dress I wore on the day, even though it’s so 2003. Unlike our wedding day of course, we have a film and this has even given me new memories as it captured bit we didn’t get to see on the day….(our wedding outtakes)

And this is what got me thinking. Is this something that would be perfect to capture? Whether it’s an intimate moment with just the couple and we work with the ‘Proposee’ to capture the moment without ruining the moment? Or whether it’s a full on ‘wow’ moment with full on audience and maybe even a flash mob?! Fun or romantic, I’m starting to wonder whether it’s something my future couples would love to capture. What do you think? If it’s an idea that excites you why not get in touch? I’d love to hear your ideas!

If you haven’t seen them yet you can watch The Wedding Proposal on 4OD here or the Don’t Tell the Bride Proposals here, just in case you need a bit of inspiration!
