The Sunday Salon: November 4, 2012

By Bluestalking @Bluestalking

Happy 'When Will This Freaking Election Finally Be Over' day.' Had enough yet? I passed enough  about three months ago; I'm now at "pull the plug and call it."

Sheesh, already.

I care about who wins but I'm so sick of all the spewage of sewage on both sides, the lies and general degradation of the office of the presidency. Are there no depths to which these two will not sink?

I have no faith people will come to realize the only way we can get things done is to drop this partisan bickering and actually try LISTENING to each other with something resembling respect. But it isn't human nature to meet in the middle, forcing Independents like myself into choosing the lesser of two evils, split down the middle as I - and so many Americans - am.

Tuesday cannot be over soon enough. If a recount is forced I may have a fit of apoplexy.

One positive in all this, it's given my  husband and I a good chance to explain the American political system to our kids, even if only our middle child doesn't run away when we bring it up. My son and I are both Independents and my husband has chosen one party, though not without some reservations we all agree upon.

Still and all, I feel fortunate to live in this country. It has its flaws but damn our people have proven some of the finest individuals on earth. I'm an Independent, card-carrying patriot, living in a country where dissent doesn't get your head chopped off. And I'm proud of it.

But last week was fun, eh? What with the big Literary Blog Hop Giveaway and all? My winner was mighty pleased with the $ 15 added to his Amazon account, and I'm mighty happy for him. It was fun getting all those entries and stuff, even the spam, which was quite creative I have to say. Y'all are getting better all the time.

I can't say a lot of reading went on last week Chez Bluestalking. I have a review due, so I've been concentrating most of my effort on that, though I do always decompress with a different book every night before bed, at the least. I also had a column due, which will have to be bumped forward because life events of the worst possible sort have forced it. I hope I'll get a pass for not delivering on time but there are times you just can't do everything. Welcome to mine.

Cancer sucks, doesn't it? And it's hitting my husband's family particularly hard with two terminal cases happening at the same time. There's no explaining it, either. That's one of the more difficult parts; humans tend to feel more comfortable when there's a cause to point a finger at. No such solace here.

Have I started writing anything for NaNoWriMo? No. No, I haven't. Understandable, given my circumstances, though a little disappointing. Do I still plan to produce something in the month of November? Yes, I do.

Am I reading? Yes, I am. Rather a lot - as always. But I'm out of time and need to go ahead and send this virtually news-free edition of The Sunday Salon. I'm making use of one of my many Free Passes, my Get Out of Blogging Featuring Any Real Substance card.

PROMISE something with actual substance will happen here soon.
