The Starting Point for Setting up Your Bedroom Furniture

By Gfl

It’s something that many find challenging to figure out. Once all the new furniture get delivered, knowing what should go where or even which unit should be set up first becomes a tricky affair.

But wait! Arranging furniture in your bedroom or any other room for that matter doesn’t have to be an art left for professionals. With just the right mindset and willingness to try out different ideas, you can’t be far from getting it all worked out.

Now, here are a few rules you can consider as the starting points for setting up your bedroom furniture.

1. Work out a layout

Perhaps the best way to get started no matter your knowledge or skills is to work out a layout. With a sketch it is easier to contemplate various furniture arrangements. Instead of spreading the actual furniture in the room and moving them around to find the best fit, playing with the dimensions on paper seems more prudent.

For instance, by working with the dimensions of different units, you’ll know what to do with awkward-shaped corners or dead spaces. Besides no setting is outrightly perfect so you can tell whatever layout seems more favourable on paper before acting on it.

2. Choose the bed location

Given that it’s the bed that defines the bedroom, it is only right that it gets a spot as a priority. Before anything else find a spot that is practical and makes sense to you the most. In most cases, the bed stands as the biggest space consumer and most cases it should be the focal point of the other furniture in the room. All the same, ensure it does not block important spots such as windows, doorways, and the likes. Again, it should allow you enough space to move around at your convenience.

3. Set up the dresser

Next! With the bed perfectly in place, your focus should then shift to the dresser. Normally, the perfect place to set a dresser is along the wall running alongside the bed. But that should depend on the available room. If that doesn’t seem to work looking at the opposite wall facing the bed could be a perfect alternative. Of course, a good dresser should coordinate with the bed while meeting all the storage needs. In all, make sure there is enough spacing gap between the dresser and any other furniture.

4. Balance out the room

As you might expect, the unwritten rule on matters furniture organization is starting from bigger units progressively to smaller units. It means once you are done with the bed and the dresser, scale down gradually to items such as a nightstand, bedside chair, and so on. And while at it, keep in mind functionality and ease of access. Distribute the remaining furniture filling the remaining spaces as envisioned in your dream layout.

Conclusion

A bedroom is a very intimate space and despite typical limitations, the arrangement should reflect your personal style and tastes. Although setting everything up doesn’t come intuitively for everyone, a little experimentation could be the secret to getting the job done.
