Verdict: Mind Twisting Thriller

Story: The Snare starts with two friend Alice (Forward) and Lizzy (Warren) being joined by Lizzy’s boyfriend Carl (Paton) for a weekend away. The trip puts them in an apartment near a peaceful coastal location but it becomes clear early on that Alice isn’t enjoying the company of Carl.

When the three find, themselves trapped on the top floor of the apartment complex they have no way of communicating for help and the tension between them starts to rise. With a week passing by Alice starts having nightmares as the food supplies are about to run out. Alice’s visions continue to get worse and Carl desperately tries to find a way down for rescue and it becomes apparent there is a malevolent paranormal force within the walls holding them there, who will make it out of this nightmare?

The Snare is a horror thriller that tries to capture the cabin fever elements in the top floor of an apartment building. We focus almost entirely on Alice’s character who has dealt with the most personal issues with abuse in her life. While this is important for Alice’s character it doesn’t give Lizzy’s character much to do over than just be the starving thirsty one in the story. The film does a great job managing the idea that this could just be in their head or that it could be paranormal which is always a difficult balance to capture, but I do find myself questioning why they don’t risk the balcony once they realize they are stuck there however risky it might seem.

The performances are good throughout with Forward being the star of the show with the constant unsettling nature of the character she portrays. While Paton and Warren are good they don’t get as much time to shine as Forward. This is a good horror that will get into your mind with a mix of horrific images or moments getting stuck inside your mind.

Overall: Horror that messes with your mind both with visuals and what is not going on from early till conclusion.
