Best Episode: Earth Abides- Still loving this show. It finds new ways to grow. I’m now really interested in the book.
Runner Up: What If- Final Season? Damn. I need more questions asked, like “What if The Avengers + Godzilla + Power Rangers. I need things like that in this silly show with some actual actors participating, instead of an entirely new cast. Like, that was definitely Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Mackie.
Best performance: Marcello Hernandez (SNL)- I’ve had my eye on this recent addition to the cast for a while, but he really stood out here. I noticed this was an episode that lacked Kenan, and Marcello certainly benefitted, hilariously making a shitty cake and deadpan delivering the line “and I might be stupid”, and then also being the worst acting coach for those trying to get into commercials. He won. He won SNL that night.
Runner Up: Billy Bob Thornton (Landman)- it is your typical Taylor Sheridan fare, but that doesn’t mean Billy Bob isn’t excellent in this. With a cast of mostly unknowns, with a barely present Demi Moore and Jon Hamm, it is all up to him to carry this. And he does.
Best Audio Description: Earth Abides- Honestly, everything was great. perhaps, this had the highest level of difficulty, as the cast basically doubled in size again, so new people had to be introduced.
Runner Up: What If- I thought the description of the Kaiju, and Kaiju Hulk, and the giant One Avenger thing was pretty solid. Also, loved the shoutout to Moon Knight. I really hope we see Oscar Issac again on screen.
Best Moment Of Audio Description: SNL- Describing those cakes. I loved that sketch.
Runner Up: Dream productions- The final dream sequence. Whoever wrote this is the bomb. You deserve a better audio mix.
Worst Episode: None. I saw some international films without audio description, but knowing their plots, I might have enjoyed them. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
Worst Performance: Again, none. And there was an entire sketch in SNL that had people pretending to be other actors auditioning for Wicked. like, I could have found someone in there that didn’t work, but I liked it all. Even in the films, the closest thing I could come to, is that I hate the song that John C. Reilly’s narrator sings in An Almost Christmas Story, but he sang it surprisingly well.
Worst Audio Description- I finally broke down to watch Last Stop In Yuma County. Can we please put some AD on that? It has been recommended so much, I’m afraid when Amazon gets ahold of it they’ll throw some TTS on it. It is a future cult classic. Like, we’re in that moment where you have that annoying friend who saw Donnie Darko is theatres, and is trying to tell you it will be the next big thing. This is The Boondock Saints. It is a movie designed to be found a few years from now.
