We are almost at the end of the year. What did you buy on Black Friday? Was it audio described?

TV Shows Watched: Silo: S2E3 (Apple Plus) with audio description, The madness: S1E1 (Netflix) with audio description, The Agency: S1E1 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, The Legend of Vox Machina: S3E11 (Amazon) with audio description, Fight Night: S1E4 (Peacock) no audio description, The masked Singer: current (Hulu) no audio description, Call me Ted: S1E2 (MAX) with audio description, A Man on The inside: S1E1 (Netflix) with audio description.

Podcasts/YouTube: None

Movies Watched: Unstoppable (screener) no audio description, The Silent Hour (Apple Store) with audio description, and Afraid (Netflix) with audio description

A lot I could talk about. I’m landing on Silo right now, as we finally got to meet the man behind the door. This episode balanced between the silo we know, and the silo Juliet discovered, where she talks to the man behind the door, who says his name is Solo. He explains a lot, which gives so much context to the show, and I won’t spoil that, but I will say that at the end of the episode he finally comes outside, and he is disarmingly underdescribed. It is like hearing the Wizard Of oz step out as just being “a man”, and you feel like everything was building up to that moment. What does he look like? how old? Beard? Gray hair? Skinny? Gaunt? White? Black? Has his skin formed a completely new tone after never seeing light or leaving a room all those years? What does Solo look like? Talk about a whiff. This audio description was like watching Babe Ruth be struck out by a toddlers… and not intentionally. It was such a sad moment in audio description that I just want to leave this section at that. Three new shows, but I was so disappointed by the reveal of Solo in Silo that I’ll wait for those other shows. This bears enough weight to carry on its own.

That being said, I will say, I don’t know what is happening with peacock, Fight Night, and the audio description, but the ball was dropped in getting delayed description, and the show only has description to a certain point. Fuck it. I watched the episode, this show is difficult without audio description and I wouldn’t recommend it. Will i finish the show? No. Sorry to the people who likely worked hard on a full track, but Peacock just really shit this bed hard.
