TV News: Netflix has cancelled Kaos. And yes, I’m still with power/internet. Hurricane Milton Bradley hasn’t reached me yet.

TV Shows Watched: English Teacher: S1E7 (Hulu) with audio description, Solar Opposites: S5E10 (Hulu) with audio description, 911 Lone Star: S5E3 (Hulu) no audio description, Queens Court: S1E2 (Peacock) with audio description, The legend of Vox Machina: S3E3 (Amazon) with audio description, love Is Blind: S7E5 (Netflix) audio description, and Saturday Night Live: S50E1 (Peacock) no audio description

podcasts: I actually started listening to a brilliant podcast, Unseen, which is about a blind undocumented immigrant. There was a documentary that hit PBS that I missed, and as a side project, they created this podcast which still incorporates audio description. They actually recommend using headphones at the top of the podcast, for the full experience. I haven’t listened to the whole thing, but what I’ve gotten through so far has been very interesting.

YouTube: The Oscar Expert: (review: joker Folie Aux Deux), the Awards contender (10 Oscar Wins he Hates that Everyone Else Loves). My hot take was when he put Gladiator’s win there, and it was so high. i was like… bro. What? That’s an excellent movie. I loved it then, I still love it even as a blind viewer.

Movies Watched: Parenthood (MAX) with audio description, Inspector Gadget (Disney plus) with audio descritpion, and 10 Things I Hate About you (Digital Copy/Apple) with audio description

I feel like my most profound thoughts I already mentioned in the podcast/youtube section. I’ll at least address why it took me so long to watch SNL. I’m trying to sus out how long it will take NBC to get the audio description from the SNL airing live now, to Peacock. Considering how long it is taking to get audio description on Fight Night, I’ll probably be eligible for Medicare. I mean, we are celebrating the fact that a 50 year old show *just* started using audio description this year. It’s the same complaint I’ve had about American Idol not using Audio Description. At this point, it feels personal. It feels like someone either at Idol or ABC is purposefully fucking over blind people. That show has been around forever, predating so many other reality shows that have since embraced audio description. even American Idol’s closest competition, the Voice, has audio description now. We’re past the point of being able to celebrate anything, because it now just feels like these shows are digging themselves out of a hole. I can literally watch something like Queens Court on Peacock, with audio description, but it took 50 years for cultural icon SNL to incorporate audio description, and American idol will feature a blind contestant, but not produce the accessibility that contestant would need.
