I’ve been holding off on discussing Khaos, because I’ve been trying to find and formulate the reasons I feel like this isn’t necessarily the best audio description track. I think perhaps the 7th episode really highlights one of the inequities. So, the episode centers around what is this shows version of a Minotaur, as King Minos relegated his son to some dark prison because he thought his son would fulfill a prophecy and kill him. when we get to the actual reveal, as the King’s daughter (and sister to this creature) finds out and demands to see her long lost twin, that creature is really underdescribed. there’s even a scene where she takes something (i think) off his head? Like he had some kind of mask on, and she takes it off? So, we should be “getting a good look” so to speak, but the audio description didn’t seem interested.

In episode six, there was this moment between hades and Zeus. Hades is trying to do something to demonstrate his point, and that never got described. Then, Hades is told to go stand in water, which is apparently bad for him? but, the description doesn’t really support that.

It’s the hot new Netflix show, and the audio description is very mediocre. It is recorded well, and the choice of narrator as a voice for the series is fine, but when you get right down to the meat of what we get, it isn’t remotely immersive, and often leaves us having to fill our own gaps using our imagination, or trying to find reasoning because things aren’t clued in to make sense. There’s only 1 episodes left, and I don’t think anything is going to change to really shake things up. It isn’t the worst track I’ve ever heard, but it really doesn’t serve the show, and it could definitely be better.
