The Small Screen Diaries- 08/07/24

In the TV/Movie rumor mill, I’ve heard from some of the more conservative film critics that are claiming Marvel has been quietly pushing out all employees with ‘agendas”, because they realize their films are too woke. Basically. I think that’s silly nonsense. But, if a bunch of previously announced projects never come to fruition, then I guess we shall see. As a side note, I hate that we now have conservative film critics, like film criticism needs a left and right wing, rather than just being opinion based. What I always loved, was finding critics whose thoughts on movies resonated with me, even if we disagreed on the film, i still liked what they had to say about it. That’s why I still listen to/follow some of them, because before we decided everything needed to become red vs blue, they just had “a perspective”. I don’t think Marvel is running from anything, but it is hard to look at some of their recent films and say that it couldn’t have been done better. Not all of them, but some.

And Now….

Suicide Squad: The Anime- S1E2 (MAX)

Last week, on Monday, I was faced with really three shows I wanted to breakdown. I pushed The Ark to yesterday, and I watched the second episode of this MAX series today. I normally try to give every show 2 episodes, just to see, because you don’t always get the full vibe right away. I’ve had plenty of shows that I’ve ended up loving that just had really bad pilots. But, I’m closing the book on this. This is a little quickie, because I rant all the time about lack of accessibility, especially when it seems blatantly obvious this should have it. it is brand new, it is DC branded, Suicide Squad, with Harley Quinn, and there’s no audio description. I just raked MAX and WBD over the coals in the literal previous post on my site, which is a review of Twister, another obvious choice that has no audio description. Doing it two days in a row seems overkill for my readers? So, I’ll just confirm that this is a really tough watch without audio description, and I watched it just long enough to tell you I’m quitting due to lack of accessibility. Two episodes and done. How does this end? I will never know. There are three shows dropping new episodes with Harley Quinn in them at the same time, so i can cut one loose. Harley is also featured in the first episode of Kite Man: Hell Yeah, a spinoff of Harley Quinn, and also is in a few episodes of Batman: Caped Crusader. I don’t need to suffer to get my Harley fix.
