Bridgerton- With the finale behind us, I think it will be interesting to see where Netflix goes with audio description. IDC has had the show until now, but they’ve also had Liz Gutman doing the writing. With Liz shifting to a different AD company, and Bridgerton’s AD getting positive notice, will Netflix prioritize the writer or the company for Season 5? If Liz had moved to a bargain bin company, the argument could be made for not wanting to hear a track by diffuse, but that isn’t the case. Sorry, but as this is the final episode, I’m avoiding spoilers. It has only been a few days, and I don’t want to ruin anything. the AD is excellent, and for the love of everything, I so want to implore the writers to pick Violet for Season 5. Her relationship with Marcus is lovely, and at a crossroads. Plus, the parallels she now has with Francheska could enrich the story, and we’re at a point where we can’t keep jettisoning married Bridgerton members. A season centered on violet, centered on the Bridgerton family, would not only allow for returns from past focuses, but also really give the remaining Bridgerton family members a season to grow. As a compromise, violet’s story is so parallel to Francheska, they could do both.
Down Cemetary Road- I’d watch Emma Thompson in anything, though ever since they picked up the guy, it seems like her screen time has dropped a bit. The mystery still needs answering, and the AD is still solid.
Shifting Gears- I miss Jenna Elfman. Concurrently, you’d think with Elfman gone, they’d bring back Nancy Travis for a hot second, but I guess not. Still a fan of this AD, and its AD performer.
Can You Keep A Secret- Did I hallucinate, or was someone described as kind? Like, I feel like there had to be a better word. But this quirky BritCom imported for our enjoyment features a funny plot about a family pretending someone is dead, so they can collect the money from it, which they can use. Honestly, the guy has Parkinson’s, has memory issues, and is incontinent, and while everything is played for laughs, it’s such a weird take. It can’t be accused of being derivative.
Have I Got News For You- Clearly taped on friday before we bombed Iran. John Oliver tapes on Saturday, so he presumably would be able to react.
Matlock- With Julian now a wildcard, as his father wakes up a big kinder after having a massive stroke, one that is leaving him slurring his speech, and needing a lot of recuperation, Maddie has to put it all out there. Also, hot prediction, Maddie is so focused on this that she won’t notice her grandson get kidnapped by Joey’s family. Something about how we barely got to meet them, and he’s asking to go to a cabin with no screentime that felt really like it was trying to set something up for Alfie.
The Actor Awards- I started with the obnoxious preshow, with two of the worst influencers. Who are these people? Why are they hosting? Girl couldn’t even remember the name of Odessa Azoin’s film. I also just learned Odessa is a second gen actress, being the daughter of Pamela Adlon. Glad Catherine O’Hara won posthumously. The AD here was really solid, and they used multiple voices. Was that Dave Wallace doing the AD for each film clip? I think so. I fell asleep, so I didn’t finish. Sinners may have won the biggest prize of the night, but sleep was the true victor, knocking me out cold in the recliner before the ceremony ended. Like, way before.
