Next week, get your remotes ready. Tonight (Sunday, 2/16) is the SNL Anniversary bash on NBC with a ton of special guests. I’m sure it will port to Peacock later. Returning shows that I know have audio description include Tracker (CBS/Paramount Plus), reacher (Amazon), Surface (Apple Plus), and the big return of the Emmy winning The White Lotus (HBO/MAX). Disney Plus also has a new original Pixar series Win or Lose, and Netflix is launching the limited series Zero Day. In terms of movies, Peacock is dropping Nosferatu on Thursday, and MAX has Elevation (which I hope they use the existing audio description track).
Also, i wanted to do something a little different and track/rank the broader range of shows I keep moving through the lists. So, instead of the typical awards, Sundays I kind of want to touch base on the shows on my list. I’ve included below the show, where it streams, does it have audio description, and basically its status. I included some of the shows from last week that I cancelled (removed from watchlist), as well as shows that ended.
First, a quick acknowledgement of yesterday.
Shows Watched: Yellowjackets: S2E1 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, the Traitors: S3E8 (Peacock) with audio description, Harley Quinn: S5E5 (MAX) with audio description, Surviving Black Hawk Down: S1E3 (Netflix) with audio description, Cassandra: S1E1 (Netflix) with audio description, Celebrity Jeopardy: Current (Hulu) with audio description, Matlock: S1E? (Paramount Plus) with audio description, and Elzabeth: S2E? (Paramount Plus).
Overall I’m watching….
- Severance (Apple Plus) with audio description- Firmly at the top of my list after five episodes so far this season. I think the show got better. in general, strong performances, which have been recognized, and the audio description is also great, and I’ve singled it out as well.
2) Cobra Kai (Netflix) with audio description- Just my personal taste, but I do love this show, and I only have 4 episodes left. yes, there’s a movie, and the creators of this show are already in talks for some kind of continuation.
3) Yellowjackets (Paramount Plus) with audio description- It came back with a blast. I’ve only seen the first episode, but the performances are still strong, and the audio description seemed fine. I was waiting for a standout moment, but I’m still trying to figure out how someone blows their nose onto the ground. Was he kneeling?
4) the Traitors (Peacock) with audio description- Easily the worst audio description track I’m listening to, but i love this show with every fiber of my being.
5) From (MGM Plus as a Prime Channel Add On) with audio description- rapidly rising as a new show versus four shows above it with more seasons that have established stronger roots. I’m so glad this now has audio description, and the track is incredible, and the show is one of the great horror mysteries of our time.
6) Abbott Elementary (Hulu) with audio description- Another awful audio description track, but I’ve come to lean on the ensemble of Abbott, who have mostly knocked out every episode this season.
7) St Dennis Medical (Peacock) with audio description- Another bright new entry I look forward to every week. The audio description here is below average even for a sitcom.
8) Elzabeth (Paramount Plus)- with audio description- Carrie Preston brings me joy every week. I’m dying for this show to be renewed. the audio description is really pretty good.
8) Ghosts (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Another strong ensemble that brings me joy.
9) Mythic Quest (Apple Plus) with audio description- Another returning favorite of mine.
10) Pop Culture Jeopardy (Amazon) with audio description- As you might guess, I love playing along.
11) Matlock (Paramount Plus) with audio description- Kathy Bates is killing it in a show with reliable audio description.
12) high Potential (Hulu)- with audio description- recently wrapped. Since it was renewed, it’ll be back to the diaries next year.
13) Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Disney Plus) with audio description- While the audio description ran from the diversity, the action sequences are done well, and I’m a Marvel nerd.
14) the Rookie (Hulu)- often with audio description- I haven’t heard the last two episodes with audio description, but 7 seasons in and I’m a big fan of this ensemble. It might be getting a little silly from time to time, but I still like it.
15) Vietnam: the War That Changed America (Apple Plus) with audio description- An exceptional docuseries.
16) the Daily Show (Paramount Plus) no audio description- currently the highest rated program on this list without audio description. As the world burns and I cry in the fetal position, I need Jon Stewart to help me process.
17) Celebrity Jeopardy (Hulu) with audio description- The celebrities this season have really stretched the term “celebrity”, and I think some of them are low enough on the totem pole they could use the money themselves. This last episode, I didn’t know a single person. I knew all their shows, but as individuals? No.
18) Apple Cider Vinegar (Netflix) with audio description- Recently finished, so it won’t be on my list again. Google it? That still pisses me off, but the rest of the show was solid.
19) Surviving Black Hawk down (Netflix) with audio description- Much like the Vietnam show on Apple, this covers both sides of the conflict, making it far more interesting. Also, just finished, so disappearing from this list.
20) Harley Quinn (MAX) with audio description- S5E4 was my least favorite episode of the series, but this last episode rebounded. it just needs more BANE!
21) School Spirits (Paramount Plus) with audio description- I’m excited this came back, and I’m loving the mystery of it all. The description is pretty solid.
22) The Masked Singer (Hulu) no audio description- second show with No Audio Description. I still love the performances, and trying to guess as a blind person with no audio description really is testing my knowledge of pop culture.
23) Will Trent (Hulu) with audio description- the third season is off to a bit of a rocky start, if I’m being honest. but I remain optimistic.
24) Paradise (Hulu) with audio description- I haven’t loved every episode, but this show is on the upswing right now.
25)Going Dutch (Hulu) no audio description- Denis Leary is good in my third show with no audio description,.
25) SNL (Peacock) with audio description- The show is so uneven these days and honestly really about 8 of the cast carry the whole show.
26) XO Kitty (Netflix) with audio description- it is fine. We are at the fine level now.
27) Prime Target (Apple Plus) with audio description- Again, it is fine. Not great, just fine.
28) Clean Slate (Amazon) with audio description- I’ll finish it eventually. I wish it was better.
29) Shifting Gears (Hulu) with audio description- Solid audio description is helping this struggling Tim Allen sitcom.
30) Cassandra (Netflix) with audio description- this international entry is about dangerous AI. Again.
31) Love You To Death (Apple Plus) with audio description- I was here for this the first episode, but then in the second episode the guy dying with this weird heart condition goes to the hospital for something else… and that doctor never brings up his health condition? What? What is this show about?
32) celebrity Bear Hunt (Netflix)- with audio description- decent audio description, but once Mel B is gone, so am I.
33) The Kardashians (Hulu) with audio description- I’m technically in Season 1, but these ladies know how to work a camera.
34) Landman (Paramount Plus) with audio description- While Billy Bob Thornton was great, I couldn’t care about the future of this show. I did finish it so it will be leaving this list.
35) Dexter: original Sin (Paramount Plus) with audio description- I could say the same thing here. That new kid is never going to be Michael C. Hall, no matter how hard they try. And with Dexter resurrection coming, I think we are all really about ton realize it even more.
36) Papa’s house (Paramount Plus) with audio description- I want so much more for the Wayans.
37) The Hunting Party (Peacock) with audio description- Hanging on by a thread.
38) Wags To Riches (Netflix) with audio description- Great audio description, but not really my thing.
39) The Z Suite (Tubi) with audio description- Watched the first two episodes and haven’t come back yet, but also haven’t formally axed it.
40) The Pitt (MAX) with audio description- the same. I’m not enthused. i haven’t driven the stake in, but it has been a minute since I watched an episode.
41) Happy’s Place (Peacock) with audio description- probably closest to death.
And The Cancelled: Extracted (Hulu), the jetty (Hulu), and Common Side Effects (MAX)- the latter of the three has audio description, it is just so unfunny, and the other two do not and are thus a waste of time. Extracted does have audio description if you watch live. Only live.
