Episode 1 – Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire

Plot SynopsisChristmas seems doomed for the Simpson family when Homer receives no holiday bonus. Hoping to make extra money, he becomes a mall Santa Claus in an attempt to bring the family a happy holiday.

What is going on reallyHomer and Marge arrive late to the Christmas school performance, we get an instant look at how Lisa is the bravest boldest and most individual member of the family while Bart will be the rebel. We get to see the family dynamics between the extended family and how the neighbor Ned will always be one step ahead of Homer.

This Christmas Bart decides to get a tattoo while Lisa wants a pony but removing the tattoo uses up the Christmas saving when the soon to become famous evil boss Mr Burns doesn’t give Homer and the fellow employees a Christmas bonus.

Homer trying to cover up the short comings for the Christmas goes out of his way to make sure the family have a Christmas including becoming a Santa at the mall. But with even that running him with next to nothing to spend on presents leading him to go with Barney and Bart to the race tracks to gamble the remaining money.

When the dog they gamble on Santa’s Little Helper loses the race and the money Homer and Bart desperately search for money to take home only to see the owner of Santa’s Little Helper abandon him and becoming the miracle to save the Christmas for the family.

Final ThoughtsThis episode shows us just how much Homer loves him family and will go to any lengths to keep them from not being happy. Homer becomes the instant hero of the series making him being one of the best father figures ever to hit the television. This showed us what we will get from the show for years to come.
