The Sandbox Instagram Back Online After Hack

Sandbox has got control of its Instagram account after it was hacked in the early hours of Thursday morning, the company announced in a blog post.

Hackers entered the official account of the Metaverse platform, that has 184,000 followers, and posted a phishing link. It is not yet known how they were able to get control of the account. It was immediately disabled as soon as the breach was discovered and is presently back online.

The Sandbox told The Block that to their knowledge just one user was scammed and that they were cooperating with him to “resolve his situation.”

The company said: “The trust of our community is crucial to us,and we are taking steps to more secure our social accounts. We are presently reviewing our security logs and internal processes to ensure security across all of our platforms.”

The hacker’s wallet indicates that it has four NFTs that were transferred from two wallets after the Instagram breach. Among them is the World of Women Galaxy NFT.

NFT phishing scams are normal on social media. In April, BAYC’s official Instagram was hacked, and the hackers received $2.8 million in NFTs.

In other cases, hackers have approached owners through social media for private deals. After agreeing on a price, they convince their target to link their wallet to a scam trading site, which after that rids them of its contents. In May, 29 Moonbirds worth $1.5 M were taken in this way.

Blue tick accounts are attractive for hackers, hoping that the appearance of being official will fool more people.

“This event serves as a reminder that we should never let our guard down. As of our profile, hackers and phishers are continuously trying to test us. No matter how hard they try, we will work even harder to keep your accounts, and ours, secure”.
