29 million people tuned in to watch Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wedding ceremony, in what had to have been the royal wedding of the century.
Nielsen calculated that 29 million Americans tuned into the 15 channels that aired the wedding of the year. This number beats out William and Kate’s wedding, which had 22.8 million people tuned in.
Americans, of course, had an invested interest in this wedding, with all of us watching to see our American Princess, Meghan Markle marry into the British Royal Family aka “The Firm.”
The couple, who released their official photos Monday, also released a “Thank You” message to all their well wishers.
Kensington Palace said in a statement: “The Duke and Duchess would like to thank everyone who took part in the celebrations of their Wedding. They feel so lucky to have been able to share their day with all those gathered in Windsor and also all those who watched the wedding on television across the UK, Commonwealth, and around the world.” The statement added: “Their Royal Highnesses are delighted with these official portraits taken by Alexi Lubomirski and are happy to be able to share them today. They would also like to say thank you for all of the generous messages of support they have received.”
