The Ring

She adored the spring

Vibrant and new

Eyes filled with wonder

So much to consume

Growing like a weed

Bluebell of the ball

Her prince has come

Handsome and tall

A brand new love

She made his heart sing

He had to have her

He bought a wedding ring

Dreams came true

One girl and two boys

Summertime laughter

Days filled with joy

Giggles and tears

As they all grew

The sun settles in

Time truly flew

Life begins to fall

Sunny days turn gray

Her prince grows weak

And tarnished with age

Her heart grows heavy

Watching him die

Leaves, brown and shrivel

Reminders of time

His final season

Turns a new leaf

A heart grows cold

Chilled in her grief

A long winter sets in

Aching her bones

A snow-covered roof

New moans and groans

Her body now slow

Her mind still sharp

So much left to give

Her love still grows

A wise old lady

Gentle and kind

Always thinking of others

Always giving time

But a storm rolled in

Cloudy and dark

Lightning fingers attack

Beating her heart

Three punks broke-in

She was easy prey

Beaten and battered

She faded away

A beautiful life

Brutally taken

By three thugs

Her life forsaken

Money they wanted

She didn’t have a thing

So they slit her throat

For her wedding ring
