Green Lantern New Guardians #14

By: Antony Bedard, Aaron Kuder

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: Preparing to take down the Guardians unaware of the on-coming Third Army, Kyle Rayner has been practicing with his allies from each Lantern Corps trying to get a grasp on his emotions. It is elevating his torchbearer status from simply the last remaining Green Lantern for so long to the one Lantern who could embrace the power of each Corps to take on the Guardians.

Frankenstein Alive Alive #2

By: Steve Niles, Bernie Wrightson

Publisher: IDW Publishing

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: With the first issue being released back in May, this new take on the Modern Prometheus after he lumbered into the sunset at the end of Mary Shelley’s original novel. The script from horror writer Steve Niles is thoughtful, eerie, and surprisingly character driven while Bernie Wrightson delivers some truly amazing illustrations.

Judge Dredd #1

By: Duane Swierczynski, Nelson Daniel, Zach Howard

Publisher: IDW Publishing

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: The relationship between 2000 AD and IDW seems a little redundant  but here we are. A brand new story featuring Dredd and the other characters from Mega-City 1. I feel like this just might be IDW buying up licences, like the Disney of the comic book industry, but hey, maybe it ends up being good.

Clone #1

By: David Schulner, Juan Jose Ryp

Publisher: Image Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: Clones have become the bane of comic book properties ever since Spider-Man had a whole saga dedicated to them, but it is also a great sci-fi staple that has plenty of untapped directions. Not sure if this is technically a new direction, but Image has been on such an amazing tear lately that this shouldn’t go ignored.

Comeback #1 (of 5)

By: Ed Brisson, Michael Walsh

Publisher: Image Comics

Price: $3.50

The Lowdown: This is another first issue for a new Image title. This one deals with time travel specifically an organization that goes back in time to make wrongs right for hire. I am sure that there will be some serious Butterfly Effect-ing.

Captain America #1

By: Rick Remender, John Romita

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: Cap is already perpetually out of his element being a WWII-era man in the modern world. Maybe he has gotten to the point where that is no longer a problem, so what better than to thrust into an alternate dimension. Remender is taking over scripting duties for the red, white, and blue boy. Remender is possibly one of my new favorite writers. His Uncanny X-Force was such a great mix of gratuitous violence and thoughtful character moments for characters who are rarely given that much thought.

Hawkeye #4

By: Matt Fraction, David Aja, Javier Pulido

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: One of the most consistent and fun books that Marvel is publishing now. This is one of the titles I could probably mention every month. Pulido takes over this issue for the interior art. He has a great pulpy feel to his style that fits this particular scope of Hawkeye.

Indestructible Hulk #1

By: Mark Waid, Leinil Francis Yu, Chung Yu

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: Just another new title for the Marvel Now! series which repurposes the Hulk as a SHIELD agent of all things.

Uncanny X-Force #34

By: Rick Remender, Phil Noto, Jerome Opena

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: I already talked up how awesome Uncanny X-Force has been when talking about the new Captain America. Just be assured that is awesome and is starting to wind down for Remender’s exit and the retooling of the team.
