B.P.R.D.: 1948 #1
By: Mike Mignola, John Arcudi, Max Fiumara, Dave Stewart, and Dave Johnson
Publisher: Dark Horse
Price: $3.50
The Lowdown: Back in the old days of the BPRD, Pr. Bruttenholm, guardian of the Hellboy child, has his hands full. One one hand, he has a vampire noblemen who may be the cause of a string of massacres. On the other hand, an atomic age catastrophe releasing some space monsters in Utah.
Ex Sanguine #1
By: Tim Seeley, Josh Emmons, Tim Seeley, and Carlos Badilla
Publisher: Dark Horse
Price: $3.99
The Lowdown: A new series from Hack/Slash’s Tim Seely, Ex Sanguine brings together a serial killer and an ages old vampire. One feeds his need to kill, while the other feeds his need for blood. They sell it as Buffy and Angel meets Natural Born Killers. They also refer to it as psychological horror, so hopefully there is more to this than just blood and guts.
American Vampire Lord Of Nightmares #5 (of 5)
By: Scott Snyder and Dustin Nguyen
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $2.99
The Lowdown: This is the conclusion to Snyder’s little side mission from the regular Pearl and Skinner stories from the main title. This is Snyder tackling Dracula as most vampire serials are wont to do. Agents Felicia and Hobbes have chased his coffin all over Europe, and they have finally caught up with it.
Catwoman #13
By: Ann Nocenti, Adriana Melo, and Andy Clarke
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $2.99
The Lowdown: Ann Nocenti starts her run in Catwoman by revealing her true origin. Also, look out for an appearance from the Joker. I believe this is one of the Death of a Family lead in titles.
DC Universe Presents #13
By: Marc Andreyko, Robson Rocha, and Ryan Sook
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $2.99
The Lowdown: Black Lightning and Blue Devil were two characters that I really missed when the new 52 started. To think that so much effort had gone into bringing those guys up from their usual low tier standing to play with some of the heaviest hitters only to be forgotten about in a publisher-wide shake up is a shame. They finally get their piece of the pie with this issue that chronicles there adventures as mis-matched superhero roommates.
Sword Of Sorcery #1
By: Christy Marx and Aaron Lopresti
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $3.99
The Lowdown: I would probably be amiss if I didn’t point our the brand new title to join the new 52. I read her zero issue, and it was pretty decent. I honestly don’t think I ever heard of this title before even though all the solicits claim she is back.
Not My Bag
By: Sina Grace
Publisher: Image Comics
Price: $12.99
The Lowdown: A new graphic novel from the artist of Lil Depressed Boy depicts a starving artist taking a creative killing job in retail and the metaphorical monsters that come with it.
Daredevil #19
By: Mark Waid, Chris Samnee, and Paolo Rivera
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Price: $2.99
The Lowdown: Matt Murdock’s cannot tell if he is slowly loosing his mind or not, but everyone else seems pretty convinced that he is off the deep end. This is no time to deal with one of the biggest and most dangerous threats he has ever come across, yet enter Coyote anyway.
Hawkeye #3
By: Matt Fraction and David Aja
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Price: $2.99
The Lowdown: Clint and Kate teaming up together in one of the best new books Marvel has going. No surprise that it isn’t crossing over with any big event or trouble. Just Hawkeye hobknobbing like a Marvel Knight instead of those hoighty toighty Avenger types. Plus, the vagabond code is on display, which I am not completely out of the loop on thanks to Mad Men.
Marvel Zombies Halloween
By: Fred Van Lente, Alessandro Vitti, and Francesco Fancavilla
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Price: $3.99
The Lowdown: The Marvel Zombies are back for a Halloween one shot, and they are being written by Zombie veteran Fred Van Lente that brought us Marvel Zombies 3 and 4. Those didn’t hit as big as the first one, but I thought they were better reads.
