The Problem With The Name Henry Roth

By Robert Bruce @robertbruce76

As you guys know, I do some research on the books from the Time list as I’m reading them. It goes without saying that Google is my friend.

So, as I prepared to read Call It Sleep, I attempted to do a quick Google search for its author, Henry Roth.

And here’s what you get when you google Henry Roth:

#1. You get some results from the Henry Roth I’m interested in. Mainly, this older curmudgeonish looking photo that appears on the back of Call It Sleep.

#2. Next, you get a lot of results about Henry Roth, wedding dress designer. This Henry Roth, on his Facebook page, says his mission is to “rock your frock.” I don’t know what that means. But here’s what that Henry Roth looks like. Sassy!

#3. Finally, you get a lot of results about the movie 50 First Dates, which starred Adam Sandler as, you guessed it, a lead character named Henry Roth. The movie received a 44% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is only 5% lower than the Baz Luhrmann’s version of Gatsby–and that’s just an insult to an outstanding film (Gatsby, that is). Here’s what that Henry Roth looks like.

So what’s the point of this post?

I have no idea.

I just…I just thought it strange to have so many famous Henry Roths in the world. That’s all.

See, these are the things I do for 101 Books.

At least now I know who to consult with if I ever decide to change careers and pursue my dream of becoming a wedding dress designer.
