The Postiche Bistro in the 1st; the Poisson Was d'Avril and April Was the Fool.

By Johntalbott

The Postiche Bistro was a place my longest-lived friend in Paris whose rating about we argued amiambly a few weeks ago (she thought it was a 9/10, me 6.1/10).Today, we returned with two dear friends from the Left Bank, expecting a similarly wonderful meal, forgetting it was April Fool's Day aka le poisson d'Avril.  So instead of lieu it was haddock and instead of mushroom salad it was bacon'n'eggs.  But I'm getting ahead of myself.

For starters, one of us had the potiron soup, which because Colette and I are coming off distresses of different organ systems, we declined to taste, but our friend J. said it was good.  The two of us who had the terrifically crispy bacon and eggs on a salad with walnuts were quite happy - me more than he, though.

Then the three others had the haddock, which as it comes in France, is over-salted and over-smoked for Yankee palates and I had gravlox with cream cheese - both with lotsa veggies - warm for them, cool for me.

R. desires cheese after every meal and the St Marcellin was very good albeit cold; and J. and Colette had the clementines with anise, also quite good and at an appropriate temperature.

Our bill, with 2 bottles and 2 glass of wine and a brandy as well as 2 coffees, with quite decent bread but no bottled water, was 154 E, thus 77 E per couple.

Go back?  Humm, maybe it was just April Fool's but I got fooled enough to think no.
