The two charts above reflect the results of the NBC News Poll -- most recently done between January 10th and 13th of a national sample of 1,000 registered voters, with a 3.1 point margin of error.
The voters were asked whether they had a positive or negative view of the two major political parties. Neither party is popular with a majority of Americans, but the Democratic Party is less unpopular than the Republican Party at this time.
The Democratic Party is viewed positive by 39% and negatively by 44% -- a negative gap of 5 points.
The Republican Party is viewed positively by 29% and negatively by 51% -- a negative gap of 22 points.
Note that recent actions of Republican officials have caused the reputation of the Republican Party to tumble.
