May 2014 / Tureture Village / Gulf of Papua: He thanked me profusely, after a brief handshake, when I gave him a local newspaper I carried from Port Moresby. And then, like a child getting his first book, he sat by the tombstone of a fallen Kiwai brother and eagerly read through the pages. It may not be in the papers but the beach sand around them provide clues that the living and the dead in this village are being threatened by the raging tides of an advancing sea (see Tureture – The Vanishing Village).
