The Pacific Sutera Hotel, part of the integrated resort complex Sutera Harbour, is a five-star business hotel in the heart of Sabah, Malaysia. During our trip to Kota Kinabalu one summer, we had a taste of luxury through the hotel’s deluxe twin room that faces a panoramic view of the Graham Marsh-designed golf course and its extensive facilities. Nestled on a reclaimed land five minutes away from Kota Kinabalu’s city centre, this luxurious hotel houses 500 elegantly designed rooms and suites, five renowned dining outlets, and state-of-the-art amenities and services.

Although primarily for business, the Pacific Sutera Hotel may also be fit for leisure travelers. As a matter of fact, it can offer boat services to Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine National Park right from the marina behind the hotel, as well as tours to Mount Kinabalu and Kinabalu Park through its concierge.

All guests are also entitled to access and privileges in the recreational facilities around the resort complex, such as the 27-hole championship golf course, 104-berth marina, swimming pools, fitness gym, international spa, indoor sports center, and a 100-seat movie theater.

As for business travelers, the hotel houses a fully-equipped business center, meeting rooms and conference facilities, limousine service, complimentary shuttle bus services within the city, and a Grand Ballroom that can host as many as a thousand people.

A grandiose, high-ceiling lobby greeted us upon our arrival at the hotel. Surrounding a dolphins sculpture is the Lobby Lounge, which serves cocktails and refreshments with accompanying live music at night.

After checking in, we headed to our deluxe room that overlooks a sprawling golf course. Luxurious and elegant, the room features wooden fixtures, ambient lamps, and silky white beddings that create an outstanding resting experience.

The room also has ample space for a small sitting area facing golf course. Other conveniences include a desk, TV with satellite channels and in-house movies, minibar with coffee and tea making facilities, fast internet connectivity, closet with ironing bed and bathrobes, and a safety box.

The bathroom, which has both a shower and a tub, interestingly has a wooden window that opens to the room. Its counter is completely supplied with towels and amenities.

Of the five food and beverage outlets in the hotel, we were able to sample a delectable and elaborate breakfast buffet spread at Cafe Boleh. Choices include a wide variety of bread and pastries, fruits and vegetables, and Halal, Western and Chinese dishes.

The hotel boasts of host of facilities, including a business center, fitness center, and a well-known spa. North Borneo Traders, located at the lobby of the hotel, is a themed boutique where guests can purchase souvenir items, clothing, and other necessities.

At the back of the hotel, meanwhile, is a beautifully-landscaped garden, as well as the hotel’s outdoor restaurants and bars. The swimming pool and its swim-up bar are also there, showcasing a view of the beach and the South China Sea.

In all, business and leisure travelers alike will find the Pacific Sutera Hotel as the one of the best luxury choices in Kota Kinabalu, with its elegantly-appointed rooms, delectable food, extensive features, and exclusive privileges to Sutera Harbour’s recreational facilities.
