According to my mother, The Owl and the Pussy-Cat was my favourite verse as a child. She read it to me every night and I'd have a tantrum if she didn't. I have vague memories of this.
I enjoyed this very short book of nonsense verse. It contains The Owl and the Pussy-cat as well as a few of Lear better known nonsense verse including The Jumblies, The Cummerbund and Calico Pie. The best verse is The Owl and the Pussy-Cat which is really enjoyable to read. The rhyme and verse works really well. To be honest, I didn't really enjoy any of the other verses in the book. The rhyme and rhythm came across as strained and just doesn't work as well as The Owl and the Pussy-Cat. I enjoyed re-reading a childhood favourite but feel for the most part these verses have dated badly and I wouldn't recommend this book.
