‘The Old Guard’ is Extremely Dumb Fun – ProWellTech

Although we have discussed a lot about Netflix new action movie "The Old Guard", we mostly agree: the film is both reasonably fun and surprisingly stupid.

We have not contested the basic concept, which sees Charlize Theron leading a small group of immortal mercenaries. But the plot seems arbitrary and lazy (yes, even by the standard of Hollywood action), with a lot of awkward dialogues and nose - all the more disappointing since the script was adapted by acclaimed comic book writer Greg Rucka from the graphic novel created with the artist Leandro Fernández.

The debate, therefore, was whether "The Old Guard" remained delightful despite its aggression, or whether the virtues of the film - Theron's charisma and commitment to kinetic action scenes - only made it passably fun.
