The next generation Nexus 7 tablet which was co-produced by Google and Asus Computer is reported to be using processor chips from Qualcomm instead of Nvidia. Nvidia is the sole processor chips supplier for the first generation Nexus 7. Nvidia will loose about eight million shipment of its processor chips if the next generation Nexus 7 does not oder its processors. Meanwhile, the latest Nexus 7 model will be debutted in May,according to Digitimes.

In 2012 Nvidia has shipped over 10 million Tegra 3 chips for use in tablets and 6 million of that are for used with Google’s first generation Nexus 7, the remainders were shipped to other vendors such as Lenovo, Acer and Chinese white-box players. According to some notable sources, the change of mind from Nvidia to Qualcomm is not due to cost as both seems to be priced at the same level, it is highly probable due to the chips’ communication and chip integration process. Nvidia has launched its latest processor chip – the Tegra 4i with an integrated 4G LTE chip, however it was not able to catch up with the second-generation Nexus 7′s launch schedule.
