The (new) Ferme St-Simon in the 7th: Perfect, Too Perfect, Indeed Seriously Lacking Soul.

By Johntalbott

5.0 La Ferme St Simon, 6, rue de Saint-Simon in the 7th, 0145.48.35.74, (Metro: Rue du Bac), is a place I recall eating at, at least 5 times; back in the 1960's, in the 1970's, in 2002, 2008 and earlier this year, all after a new chef came or architect did a redo.  You've gotta give'm crecit for trying to get it right. We sarted off with a lovely amuse bouche of salmon and a nice bottle of Anjou (which surprise, was offered as a substitute for what we ordered and they were out of - at 10 E less - when have you ever been baited and switched to a less expensive wine?)

We went for the 35 E 3-course "menus" rather than 70-100 E a la carte (don't believe the JDD which said 60 E) and had the lentils with a perfect egg and chorizo and bits of a bar-like fish, both delicate, fine but not worth writing home about.

Then the gals had nice pieces of bar and the guys had poitrine de porc; again, OK, but to come back for?  Nah.

Finally the distaff side of the table had OK apple tarts and we had OK raw and poached pears.  Sorry, no fireworks.

Our bill, with no bottled water but 2 bottles of wine and four coffees, was 256 E thus 128 E a couple.

Go again?  Slap me if I'm ever tempted with the next new chef; this place has no soul.  But the bread was terrific, the butter good and the noise level wonderful - 70.8 dB.
