* The Monster Dash of St Paul, MN

By Keepingupwithsonnek @aJOschlomka
On the morning of our Halloween party Aaron and I participated in St Paul's MN Monster Dash 5k. I signed up along with my sister and a few other MN Bloggers. We all went as different lakes in MN. Aaron is the creative genius behind this 'lake' concept and we all ran with it quite well- PUN intended!
[fun post race photos]
Aaron was "Minnesota Lake" [duh, Minn Lake is where he is from and with his town having a lake named Minnesota Lake- it was a no brainer]. For him, we just went with an iron on of the MN state silhouette and an outline of Minnesota Lake. I failed to get a picture of Aaron and his shirt because he decided to layer for warmth OVER this lake attire. He also wasn't really sure how or WHY he was roped into running the Monster Dash with me and all these girls!? ;)
I was "Loon Lake" it was nice not having to get very much in order for this one to come to life. I borrowed Avrie's stuffed loon, complete with a loon call, and attached it to a blue scarf [looked like water]. I also dressed head to toe in blue and also ironed on an outline of Loon Lake with puff paint and glitter to the back of my shirt.
[loon lake in the making]
Jamie, my sister, went at "Lake Elmo" she was also dressed head to toe in blue with a stuffed Elmo attached to the front of her shirt. At ages 28 & 31 we still love to dress matching!! ;)

The Mn Bloggers; Lo, Jess, Syndal, Bridget and Katie all went as the Minneapolis "Chain of Lake" Thanks again to Aaron for the fun "lake" idea, the girls did great with this one. Lo volunteered to sacrifice countless hours and a couple of hot glue gun blisters to beautifully create all five shirts. Their get ups were complete with felt letters, copious amounts of glitter, chain necklaces and decorated masks. It was SUPER cute!
[snagged this pic from lo's facebook!]
On race day, Aaron and I woke up early- and as soon as my Mom was here to watch Avrie, we headed to St Paul. After hearing about all of the traffic, Aaron and I stopped by our friend Buxton's house. He drove us into town (he was SO nice to offer)- we were able to avoid all major traffic jams and the headache of finding a parking spot. This was AWESOME and again SO nice of Buxton!
Once we all found each other we made our way to the starting line. Aaron and Jamie ran together. Bridget and I ran. Yes I RAN.... I don't run, like AT ALL, but with Bridget's positive attitude, motivation and ENERGY she kept me running and once I started I didn't really want to stop. So in the end her and I could have stuck with Aaron and Jamie for the entire race.
[bridget & i at the end... or was it the beginning]
At about the 2 mile mark I was really feeling it in my hips, knees and ankles- but again I kept on. I ran the entire 3.1 miles and had fun doing so! This fun run was pretty crowded with all types of runners; families, kids, strollers, dogs, etc... but everyone being dressed in costume made up for the crowds- after the run we all visited with each other for a little while, took some picks, drank our free MD beer and ended the event with the Jerle's giving us a ride to our car- it was also a little bit of blogger husband bonding time. Lo and I feel that Jesse & Aaron really hit it off! ;) haha bloggers.....
[we DID IT!!]
Concluding this event, little did I know that I would be feeling the pain from running for the next three days! My body hated me for a long time, we are talking about a week! I am SO old, way too out of shape and again NOT A RUNNER & as I am learning, I lack proper running shoes- which is probably why I paid for my unplanned 3 mile run! I say I won't run again, but we will see... something I run to the mailbox and MAYBE I'll find another "fun" run to hang with my sissy & buddies at! ;)
