However, despite doing business with Driscoli (Guillory) has her own plans for the Trench. This leads to a series of events that sees megs escaping and Jonas needing to work with others to stop them from killing too many people.

Verdict on The Meg 2 The Trench

The Meg 2 The Trench is an action sequel to the popular shark movie. This time Jonas has been working with the team to explore the trench. However, they find themselves dealing with others who want what is in the trench and the megs have escaped and need stopping.

This brings us back into the world where a secret world is below the ocean where megs have continued to live. We get to see more inside the trench and the different threats living in that world. Even though we don’t see much, I enjoyed seeing the team needing to navigate this world. Most of the action is big but struggles to offer that much more than before. Even if another creature steals the spotlight at times.

We get a couple of the original cast returning, Jason Statham, Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai and Page Kennedy. They continue to work extremely well together. Jing Wu is a welcome addition, being the highlight of the new cast by a long way. However, when it comes to the other new cast members, Sienna Guillory, Skyler Samuels and Melissanthi Mahut. They struggle to make any impact in their scenes. The missing originals Bingbing Li, Ruby Rose and Jessica McNamee are big losses. Losing those three and weak replacements, took away from the fun chemistry the returning members seem to have.

Final ThoughtsThe Meg 2 The Trench is a lot of fun even if the action feels similar to the first.
