How many times have we criticized our country. How many times have we said negative things about our companies. How easy it is for us to say that we so far from being up to par to international standards. One such company often criticized is Middle East Airlines (MEA). I am one of many who have criticized the MEA staff for their unprofessional treatment and lack of know how but when it comes to technicalities, we can be the best – let me add here, whenever we want to be.

The MEA lounge located on the first floor of our Beirut International Airport is one of the biggest and vastest lounges I have visited until now. The New Cedar Lounge extends over an area of 3000sqm with a capacity of 300 seated passengers. It is divided into a smoking area and a non smoking hall, both overlooking the tarmac from one side, and the internal garden from the other covered by a glass ceiling giving a rooftop outdoor feel and relaxing leather couches on the two sides facing the six LCD screens. In front of the bar chairs and tables are available for talks and serious eating. The lounge has a free Internet service for all guests without the need of a password or registration.

Food choice is restraint yet meticulously prepared. The simple things: bread sticks, Lebanese bites, salmon sandwiches, cheese rolls, kebbe, pizza, sweet mini pastry bites and a couple of fresh fruits basket. It’s more than you need to refresh before your trip as more food will be served on the plane.

“The MEA cedar class lounge is one of the best worldwide”

The best thing Lebanon has to offer is the self service glass door drinks fridge and the alcoholic bar. It has everything that you desire. Champagne, premium drinks, soft drinks and juices, water and more. Just ask for it and you’ll surely find it. This choice is rare to find in airports around the world.

In addition to that the lounge still hosts a smoking lounge as well as a business center and a kids playground.

The well renowned Charles De Gaul Terminal 2F airport doesn’t have a lounge as vast an relaxing as ours, with such a choice of bites and beverages and this is something we should all be proud of.
