The Madness, Money, Machines & Women, Amen :: Grind #109

By Ventipop @ventipop

This edition of the grind started out being all about money and finance and business...but then I got bored, started reading stories on the upcoming NCAA March Madness Basketball tournament, got an email full of interesting stories about women and a reader sent me a video of a Volkswagen being towed backwards down city streets at full speed...and it was all over. • Warren Buffet sure does get cheaper every year. In 2014, the offer was a billion.  Then it was a million per year for life. This year, it's a million...all you have to do is guess the first round of the NCAA tournament bracket correctly.
  • Of course, that's nothing compared to how much money companies lose every year due to employees slacking off filling out brackets for the NCAA tournament. Businesses estimate they lose billions...with a "B" during March Madness.
  • Otherwise mild-mannered shoppers shove and knock each other around to get their hands on discounted items at a discount sale. Do they really need that stuff ...or do they need therapy?
  • Would you pay $314 for a tie made of spiderwebs?
  • Soon, Volkswagen is coming out with an automated backing up feature called "Trailer Assist". They made this video to promote how easy it is to use...sort of:

The ideal woman which is in every man’s mind is evoked by a word or phrase or the shape of her wrist, her hand. The most beautiful description of a woman is by understatement. Remember, all Tolstoy ever said to describe Anna Karenina was that she was beautiful and could see in the dark like a cat. Every man has a different idea of what’s beautiful, and it’s best to take the gesture, the shadow of the branch, and let the mind create the tree.

...The Last Drop

For International Women’s Day 2017, Reuters photographers around the world sought out women from many different backgrounds and cultures, and created portraits of them on the job. Here are a few Women at Work 2017 juxtaposed against photos of Women at Work 1917:
