The Lowdown… The White Ship

Book of the Month for May is The White Ship by Charles Spencer. If a bit of historical, non fiction by the brother of Diana Priness of Wales is your bag then read along with me and have a go at answering the Book Club questions at the end of the month. In the meantime here is a snippet of what you are letting yourself in for:

The White Ship – the blurb

The sinking of the White Ship in 1120 is one of the greatest disasters England has ever suffered. In one catastrophic night, the king’s heir and the flower of Anglo-Norman society were drowned and the future of the crown was thrown violently off course.

In a riveting narrative, Charles Spencer follows the story from the Norman Conquest through to the decades that would become known as the Anarchy: a civil war of untold violence that saw families turn in on each other with English and Norman barons, rebellious Welsh princes and the Scottish king all playing a part in a desperate game of thrones. All because of the loss of one vessel – the White Ship – the medieval Titanic.

I will be sharing my Big Review of The White Ship on the last Friday of the month. A series of Book Club questions will also be around for you to answer on the last Thursday. Don’t wait until then though, I would love to know your marks out of ten as soon as you have read it. So grab your copy and read along with me.
