Everyone’s saying that you should learn to Code. Have you ever wondered for a moment what Coding is and why all these people are trying so hard to convince you to learn it? About a year ago, I thought about the same question. And, after a lot of reading and spending so much time on several websites like Codeacademy and W3Schools, I came to realize that it’s not really necessary for everyone to learn to code. Well, I was wrong.
At first, I thought coding is not important for someone who works as a driver, a nurse or someone who doesn’t live around much technology. That’s what basically blinds us all. Think about it this way, everyone owns a smartphone, a tablet or a computer these days. But, what if someone asks you how it works or how those apps are made, can you provide them a reasonable explanation without knowing about code? I guess not.
It’s important for a person to have at least a basic understanding of how things work around their everyday lives. And when it comes to that, having a smartphone and knowing how to play Angry Birds is not enough. You must have an understanding of the device and the technology behind it. Programming is something that gets involved in almost every high-tech device we use these days, no matter if it’s a computer, a website, a car, or even those books and papers you you read everyday. Learning to code, is like investing time for your future, because coding is necessary for building better technologies.
You don’t need to be a computer genius to learn how to code. Everyone’s trying it out these days and it’s not as hard as you think. For example, popular musician Will.i.am is currently learning to Code as a beginner. Now, he understands that Coding is “the most creative space.”
“Most jobs of the future will be awarded to the ones who know how to code,” NBA superstar Chris Bosh wrote on a Wired article. “Coding is at the base of almost every technology.”
It can be a little intimidating in the beginning, but once you get used to it, you will start to understand how to work around it. Start off with basics like HTML, Javascript and CSS. Then you can decide on how to advance your programming experience.
