The Great London Songs No.7: London Calling

By Lwblog @londonwalks
We've asked our London Walkers and London Walks guides to nominate their favorite London songs… and the playlist is proving to be wide-ranging and eclectic indeed.
From punk to jazz, with a little music hall thrown in along the way, we'll be collating them all here on The Daily Constitutional over the next few weeks in the run-up to the launch of our new Rock'n'Roll London Pub Walk every Wednesday from 1st May 2013.
As usual, we want to hear from you. What are your favorite London songs? Anything goes, from a tune mentioning a London location, to a piece of music composed here, if it has a strong London connection or theme, we'll add it to the list. Email us at the usual address, message us on Twitter @londonwalks or leave a comment below…
We've reached No.7 in our Great London Songs Playlist… did you think we'd forgotten about London Calling?
Would we be so remiss?
Two votes from the LW guides for this Clash classic. One from Laurence, who makes his case by simply saying "Has to be London Calling by The Clash."
Kevin Flude also chimes in with this punk classic, citing the following lyrica as being particularly relevant to recent meteorological conditions in London:
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin Engines stop running but I have no fear 'Cause London is burning and I live by the river
Quite so, Kevin.
Kevin will be back a little later in the series with something a little more "off the beaten track". Thanks Kevin. In the meantime, here's his choice version…

Kevin Flude is a former Museum of London archaeologist, who is now the Director of the Old Operating Theatre Museum. He has enjoyed leading Guided Walks since the late 1970's… and is something of an old punk, on the quiet, it would seem. His blog is And Did Those Feet.
