SIM card is not available without Aadhaar

Earlier, users could use any government ID, such as voter ID or passport, to get a new mobile connection. But as per the new rules, biometric verification through Aadhaar is now mandatory for all new SIM card activations. Retailers are asked to follow this process. Selling SIM cards without Aadhaar verification is strictly prohibited.

Govt strict action against fake sim card

The decision was taken after a recent review meeting of the telecom sector. Where the role of fake SIM cards in financial scams is highlighted. According to the Department of Telecom investigation, multiple SIM cards are linked to one device, which violates the country's telecom norms and makes cyber crimes easier.

On this day, the Prime Minister's Office directed the Telecom Department to use AI tools, so that criminals can be quickly identified and punished.
