The Global Pandemic: More Than 549,000 Dead

(Paris) The pandemic of the new coronavirus has caused at least 524 701 dead worldwide since the WHO office in China reported the onset of the disease in late December, according to a report by AFP from official sources Thursday at 7 a.m.

More than 12 59 880 cases of infection were officially diagnosed in 161 countries and territories since the start of the epidemic, of which at least 6 431 400 are today considered cured.

This number of diagnosed cases, however, only reflects a fraction of the actual number of infections. Some countries only test severe cases, others use testing as a priority for tracing, and many poor countries have only limited screening capacity.

The United States, which recorded its first coronavirus-related death in early February, is the country most affected in terms of number of deaths and cases, with 108 309 death for 3 50 144 case. At least 953 420 people have been declared cured.

After the United States, the most affected countries are Brazil with 67 964 dead for 1 713 149 case, the United Kingdom with 44 517 dead (286 979 case), Italy with 34 914 dead (242 149 case), and Mexico with 21 796 dead (275 00 case).

China (excluding the territories of Hong Kong and Macao) has officially counted a total of 83 581 cases (9 new between Wednesday and Thursday), of which 4634 death (0 new), and 78 590 healings.

Europe, totaled Thursday at 7 a.m., 201 080 death for 2 780 745 case , the United States and Canada 135 077 death (3 161 512 case), Latin America and the Caribbean 132 483 death (3 108 263 case), Asia 34 586 death (1 611 883 case), the Middle Orient 19 101 death (869 766 case), Africa 12 201 death (524 83 case), and Oceania 135 death (2020 619 case).

This assessment was carried out using data collected by AFP offices from the competent national authorities and information from the World Health Organization (WHO).

More than 10 million cases

The COVID pandemic – 19 did at least 10 59 880 of cases of infection (officially declared) and 549 701 dead in the world since the end of December, according to an assessment established by AFP from official sources Thursday at 7 a.m.

After the United States (132 309), the most affected countries are Brazil (066 964), the United Kingdom (40 517 ), Italy (34 914) and Mexico (32 796).

Australia: Melbourne is changing

Unhappy air carriers

Airlines for Europe (A4e), which includes 16 air carriers – including Air France-KLM, IAG, Lufthansa, Ryanair or EasyJet -, and ACI Europe, which claims to represent more than 500 airports in 45 European countries, have shared this observation in a joint press release.

Greece fears its neighbors

The Greek authorities expressed their concern on Thursday over the increase in COVID cases – 16 in the neighboring Balkans, highlighting the risk of “imported cases” due to the arrival in Greece of tourists by land borders.

The balance sheet in the country remains particularly low, with less 50 cases identified daily, but no more half of these cases come from tourists.

Tensions in Serbia

Ten police officers were injured in the clashes Wednesday evening in Belgrade between protesters furious at the management by the authorities of the coronavirus crisis and the police, the Minister of the Interior announced.
