The Generation of Generations

By Thebusinessgypsy @businessgypsy

We are a rare breed, the newest generations. We have set ourselves apart and will continue to do so. The Y & Z Generations are doing things in a different way, looking at life in a brand new light. More & more of us are changing the status quo & altering the path for future generations. We are who we are and it is time that others take notice of the Generation of Generations.

The Y Generation grew up watching the Generation Xers go to work, tirelessly, every day to the same company for 30 years, dedicating their lives to the same boss & owner. Then, once they have given all they can give, the big boss dumps them on their asses with a horrible pension to follow, leaving them in the dust. The Y Generation watched that happen to their parents & friends parents and many are still feeling the effects. We have seen the houses of our neighbors go into foreclosure and having cars repossessed. That is why the “Y’s” refuse to conform to the 9-5 for 30 years. We saw what happened to you. We do not want to dedicate our lives to one business just be used as a worker bee to make someone else money & then once you have made them enough money, you are pushed aside, making room for the newer and younger worker bee. We want a different life, where work is something we enjoy but also something that brings balance to our lives. Why work 60 hours a week to make a life for yourself and when you get there, there is no one to share it with?

Our love is different. No doubt about that. We watched our parents, the X Generation, work hard, to raise the Y Generation and give us everything we wanted. You wanted to provide us with more than what the Greatest Generation and the Silent Generation was able to provide you. You worked all hours & multiple jobs to give the “Y’s” everything. But the relationships & loves of the X Generation broke & split, making the divorce rate sky-rocket. We saw the broken marriages due to work but also due to lack of compatibility. Many Gen Xers married so fast & young, many didn’t know who they were marrying. We want a different love. A life long love. Many in the Y Generation are waiting until later to get married or focusing on their eduction and themselves before they even date. Many are living together before they get married, figuring out if they can even live together before getting hitched. Some are even waiting years to get married, waiting until they are financially sound and their relationship is stronger than ever. We are changing the way to live & love our spouses in a whole new way, but we are also changing the views of how to treat one another as human beings.

Human beings are supposed to be equal, but during the years of the Generation Xers, it was not so. In the 60s & 70s, racism & segregation was an everyday occurrence. Racial slurs rolled off the tongue without even a hesitation, while hate groups drove fear into the hearts of many innocent souls. The X Generation grew up with that reality. Many are still dealing with the pain of being mistreated to this day, while others are still dealing with the thought that it is okay to look down upon others, because thy were taught by their parents & their parents before them. We have seen the pictures & news reels while hearing the stories of segregation & harsh racism during the years of the Generation Xers and the Y Generation wants a world better than that. We want to be hand in hand with everyone, every color, every size and shape and financial status, as one human race. We want to erase the racism of the past and start fresh… For humanities sake.

Other Generations may call the Y & Z Generations lazy and lacking in motivation, but what motivates us isn’t the same as what motivated the Gen Xers. Things are different. There is a change in work, love, relationships and life.

That which seems the height of absurdity in one generation often becomes the height of wisdom in another. ~Adlai Stevenson
