The Garden Cafe in Regent’s Park

It’s Summer but even on a good day the weather here in the UK is a little bit questionable. So when it’s sunny and warm (or even hot!) you have to enjoy it to the fullest as the next day might bring in the all too familiar rain and cold. Over the last weekend – when it was fabulously sunny and hot (at least on one day) – I went exploring Regent’s Park. I had not been to Regent’s Park for ages and while the park itself had not changed a lot – I found something unexpected that I had missed the previous times. A fantastic cafe with a pleasurable garden to sit in. How had I not tried The Garden Cafe before?

The Garden Cafe in Regent’s Park is next door to Queen Mary’s Gardens which hosts a huge rose garden. The rose garden is a hugely popular part of Regent’s Park. But surprisingly in this busy area The Garden Cafe really is the spot to have a relaxing weekend lunch. In the cafe there are two large outdoor seating areas – one more open and the other one beneath the large trees. We chose the more secluded area under the trees on the right side of the actual cafe as we wanted to have a tranquil lunch.

The menu in the Garden Cafe is simple, but delightful. There’s something for everybody. Inside the cafe you can buy ‘cafe food and drink’ – Benugo coffee, pastries and sandwiches etc…

And then there’s wine… Chilled and crispy – but yet with a hit of sweetness – rosé wine. Hey, it’s weekend lunch thus there must be wine, right?! Right?!

Sometimes you just have to believe in classics and what a better way to old-school your lunch than Fish and Chips. With mushy peas, of course!

The fish was crispy, but not greasy. Don’t you just hate when the Fish and Chips are soggy and greasy. That’s a definite no-go! But you don’t have to worry about that in The Garden Cafe. The Fish and Chips were delightfully airy and mouth-wateringly good!

Another dish that we tried was the Steak Sandwich. I just cannot pass a steak without eating it.

Chargrilled minute steak with blue cheese mayo. Yum! The chips were not bad either…

My visit to The Garden Cafe in Regent’s Park was so pleasant that I will definitely be passing by (ok, not just passing by but actually stopping in) there again. After the lunch you can go exploring the park and try to burn some of those calories. Or just wait to hit the gym next day!
