Story: The Freaks of Fancy starts when a group of medical graduates are celebrating graduation. Their Professor Dr Reed Wakefield (Lawson) randomly picks four to join him for the weekend holiday. Gloria (Brownstein), Cely-An (Lovelady), Michael (Jackman) and Geoffrey (Carruthers) are the lucky winners.

This presents a wonderful opportunity for the four, however, Dr Wakefield does have a reputation after an incident the year before. The weekend seems to be going smoothly until the group learns of what Dr Wakefield planned for them.

Verdict on The Freaks of Fancy

The Freaks of Fancy is a horror movie following four medical graduates who win the opportunity to stay with an esteemed professor. However, his reputation leads to questions and what started out as a fun weekend, takes a dramatic turn for the worse.

This movie takes place in the 1920s with an artistic visual style that makes it feel like it was made in the same era. It has a micro-budget and makes the most of everything that unfolds. This offers a discussion about discovering new sciences and how far people would go to make a difference. We get great performances from a cast who embrace the era characters well. This takes things in a direction you wouldn’t expect and gives us a surprisingly disturbing final act.

Final ThoughtsThe Freaks of Fancy has a beautiful visual style and a twisted story.
