The Four Outfit Finishes Every Wardrobe Should Have

By Bridgetteraes @BridgetteRaes

While we’d all like to leave the house perfectly accessorized, some days it’s tough enough to make it out the door fully dressed.  If you’ve been struggling with cobbling together a completely accessorized wardrobe, or feel that you just don’t have easy-to-grab accessories that can finish a look, check out my top four outfit finishes that I think every wardrobe should have.  With these items you’ll be able to finish a look on even the most harried of days.

Top Four Outfit Finishes

#1- Metallic

This post was inspired by a woman’s outfit I noticed while out running errands.  Her outfit was pretty basic but what made it really pop were her gold sandals.  I think every woman should have some metallic in her wardrobe, in particular in a pair of shoes, a handbag and some jewelry.  The metallic color is completely up to you and the types of items should be dictated by lifestyle– a stay at home mom may want to consider a metallic tote bag and pair of flats, while the woman who attends multiple formal events a year should have a strappy pair of heels and a metallic clutch, for example.  Divide your life up into parts and make sure you have an equal amount of metallic to cover those areas.  The beauty of metallic is that it goes with everything and, during those grab-and-go moments, can be used to accessorize on the fly.

#2- Nude Shoes

I’ve been encouraging my clients to have at least one pair of nude shoes in their wardrobe since I started my business in 2002.  In fact, I used to say that you could spot a client of mine on the street based on whether the woman was wearing nude shoes.  Since then, the nude shoe trend has caught up with my advice and these shoes are now hailed as the most versatile and wearable shoe color for any woman’s wardrobe.

The beauty of the nude shoe is that there are plenty of shades out there for all skin tones and, keep in mind, the shoes don’t have to match your skin tone perfectly to get the leg lengthening and slimming benefits that these shoes offer.  Do yourself a favor, get yourself a pair of nude shoes and it won’t be long before they become your go-to pair while also giving you a go-to option when you’re rushed.

#3 Luggage Accessories

Mid-brown is often called luggage or cognac.  I love this color, not only because it flatters my coloring beautifully but, selfishness aside, I think this is one of the most versatile accessory colors you can own.  The beauty of the color is the fact that it works with brown, gray and black.  Having a luggage colored handbag on hand can easily become an everyday bag because no matter what the main color of your outfit is, it will work.  I also strongly encourage you to have luggage colored shoes, belts and jewelry, like tortoise, leather and other natural materials, for the exact same reason– because it is versatile.  A tortoise bracelet can warm up a black outfit, a luggage belt can add richness to gray and a cognac pair of heels flatters a navy basic dress.  Need I say more?  For those rushed mornings, when you don’t have time to change your handbag or you want to throw on a belt to change up a look, have this color on hand.

#4 Green & Yellow

Five years ago, if you were to ask me the most versatile accessory color you could own, I would have said green, hands down.  However, since then, trends have changed and yellow has since usurped the primary position as a popular color accent color at the moment.  Don’t get me wrong, I still think green is one of the most versatile accent colors you can own, but I think yellow can now share this top position.

Green has been called a colored neutral because, while it is a color, it acts as a neutral– there isn’t one color that green doesn’t complement.  The beauty of having green accessories on hand, either as a handbag, a pair of shoes and/or some jewelry, is that you can enhance any outfit with it.  On a rushed morning where you want some pop, green is a no-brainer.

Yellow is very similar to green in its versatility.  Having both on hand, yellow and green, just gives you more options.  I’d suggest having both colors on hand, however, if one of these colors isn’t your favorite you can choose the other.  If you hate both colors, don’t fret, metallic accessories can be used instead.

With these simple outfit finishes you’ll be able to get out the door quickly without sacrificing your style.

Do you have any outfit finishes that you swear by?  I’d love to hear about them!
