Story: The Flood starts as we see how immigration officer Wendy (Headey) conducts each asylum-seeking case. Wendy is given a new headline making case of Haile (Jeremiah) an Eritrean immigrate. Wendy must take the cast like any other case, facing pressure from her boss Philip (Glen).
Haile recounts his story, from his escape Eritrea into the camps across Europe. Haile met other displaced residents, ones that would offer him help. Haile’s story will get to Wendy, who listens, before judging the story of the Asylum seeker.
Thoughts on The Flood
The Flood is the story of an asylum seeker searching for a new home, after his current one puts his life at risk. Based on the many horror stories of people trying to find a safe place to live and the paperwork stopping them enter certain countries. Seeing Haile’s journey will show us how much he must overcome to make it. The struggles to survive, let alone travel the distance he does. We might focus more on Haile’s journey, but the event will focus on how others saw the moment occur.
The Flood will give us a story that will make you think about life and how you would manage in the same situation. We could learn more about accepting people with no home from this story. Ivanno Jeremiah is great in the leading role, showing the desperation of finding a safe home. Lena Headey brings a calm approach to her character, one that is left with the difficult decision. One this facing pressure from both sides for the correct solution.
Final Thoughts – The Flood is an excellent look at the asylum seeking process and decision-making.
