REEL GREAT READS (OSCARS EDITION!)
- Oscar voters overwhelmingly white, male (Los Angeles Times) - This new report proves what we've thought we've known for years: that the Academy is an old boy's club and thus, possibly biased in its ultimate selections.
- The Best Picture nominees as infographics (Vulture) - A visual treat for both Oscar lovers and haters, featuring a shit pie graph (The Help) and a line graph documenting the ups and downs of George Clooney's two-faced ("Cool Dad" vs. "Sex Symbol") career.
- The five ways the Oscars have ruined my life (Hello Giggles) - Erin Long speaks to her love/hate relationship with the Oscars with a brutal honesty (themed foods DO take over your life) we can totally, unashamedly relate to.
- Is the Academy using the Oscars to promote their own creditability? (EW) - In this video, EW critics Owen Gleiberman and Lisa Schwarzbaum ask if this year's Oscar winners should represent quality (The Artist! Jean DuJardin!), popularity (George Clooney! The Help!) or both (Brad Pitt!).
- ALSO: Maude Apatow's interview with Paul Rudd - Judd Apatow's daughter interviews the adorable everyman, asking him pertinent questions like "What was your barmitzvah like?"
WEEKEND WATCHES
- Wanderlust - The Object of My Affection and Friends co-stars Jen Aniston and Paul Rudd reunite in this off-beat David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer) comedy about an unemployed couple who join an eccentric free love commune.
- The Best Picture showcase at AMC Theatres - Get ready for film's biggest (or at least shiniest) night, by watching all ten Best Picture candidates in a row. Or, if you're more of a restless type, go for the half-day, five movie marathon.
TRAILER OF THE WEEK: Comic-Com Episode IV: A Fan's Hope
Having seen this documentary at TIFF back in September, I can safely say it is as endearing, funny and geek star-studded (Joss Whedon! Stan Lee! Kevin Smith!) as this trailer makes it out to be.
