The Female Prison Guards Whose Dealings with Murderers, Gangsters and Kingpins Have Been Exposed

One was caught on a hidden camera having sex in a store cupboard. Another allegedly cut a hole in her pants to allow her secret rendezvous.

It is the female prison guards who have been caught having sexual relations with the prisoners they were supposed to watch over. And their lovers include convicted murderers, gangsters and drug lords.

Here we look at the screws caught trapping criminals behind bars...

Joannes Hunter

Joanne Hunter began an inappropriate relationship with an inmate and smuggled cannabis into Forest Bank prison in Salford. The prison guard brought the drug into the prison, hidden in a juice carton and a Red Bull can.

She handed the parcels to a 'big' inmate at the prison before passing them on to Connor Willis, who she 'thought was in love with her'. Hunter, 28, from Bury, had started a relationship with Willis, kissing him and sending him explicit photos of himself, but denied it ever became sexual.

She also admitted sharing "flirty jokes" with another inmate. Prison authorities became aware of Hunter's crimes and she confessed after being confronted.

Hunter, of Holbeach Close, Bury, was jailed for three years after pleading guilty to misconduct in a public office and conspiracy to deliver Schedule A items to a prison.

Stephanie Smithwhite

Stephanie Smithwhite became obsessed with drug lord Curtis Warren and ruined her life by entering into a relationship with him. Smithwhite and Warren, 56, began having regular sex and secret rendezvous while he was behind bars at the HMP Frankland maximum security prison.

The pair quickly fell in love and continued their relationship for six months, while she would be responsible for Warren's safety and supervision. Smithwhite, 40, became so smitten that she got a tattoo of his name on her body, next to a rose.

She even allegedly cut a hole in her pants so the couple could have intercourse. It was only when other officers became suspicious that the sordid affair ended and Smithwhite was investigated for misconduct in public office.

In February 2020, she was jailed for two years after admitting two counts of misconduct in public office, one charge relating to their sexual relationship.

Olivia Hodgson

A prison guard was caught having an affair with a convicted murderer after a search revealed photos of the couple and the birthday cards they had given each other. Olivia Hodgson had worked at HMP Garth in Leyland, Lancs, since 2017 and began a relationship with prisoner Lavarne Forde-Morgan in early 2020.

Burnley Crown Court heard how the 26-year-old smuggled mobile phones into prison, sharing illegal messages with Forde-Morgan, who was serving a life sentence. Hodgson, of Hawthorn Road, Preston, was sentenced to eight months in prison for misconduct in public office.

Sara Williams

Sarah Williams was jailed after she was found to have had relationships with several prisoners at HMP Altcourse in Liverpool. The investigation into the 38-year-old, from Kingsway, Widnes, began in early 2020 when prison bosses received information about the cases.

Cell searches were later conducted and cellphones were recovered, proving Williams had been communicating with inmates. The investigation was referred to the North West Regional Organized Crime Unit's anti-corruption division, which arrested Williams at her home on July 8, 2020, for misconduct in public office.

In December last year, Williams was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Liverpool Crown Court after pleading guilty to three counts of misconduct in a public office, and one charge of causing a computer to perform a function with the intent to protect unauthorized access to data.

Katie Loxton

Katie Loxton, 27, was a guardian at HMP Oakwood in Staffordshire when she first met convicted drug dealer Adam Higgs. Between July 2021 and January 2022, Higgs made 3,451 calls to prison officer Loxton from a phone in his cell.

The pair had bypassed the prison's security system by setting up a fake contact on the phone in Higgs' cell. Higgs spoke to Loxton for more than 380 hours and spent £798 on thousands of phone calls.

The pair also performed sex acts on each other via a mobile phone stored in Higgs' cell. Higgs, from Grantham, Lincolnshire, also used the stashed mobile phone to communicate with Loxton via social media.

Loxton was jailed for 12 months for misconduct in a public office and sending or causing to be sent an image/sound by electronic means from a prison without consent.

Lauren McIntyre

Prison officer Lauren McIntyre, 32, had a sexual relationship with a murderer who killed his girlfriend and their daughter.

Her affair with Andrew Roberts, who was jailed in 2003 after killing 23-year-old Louise L'Homme and their 10-month-old daughter Tia in Tylorstown, Rhondda, took place in 2018 while he was in prison. the Isle of Wight.

The mother-of-three also gave Roberts the personal mobile number of another prison officer, knowing he was planning to attack her colleague with whom she had also had an affair. She failed to raise the alarm about the attack, meaning the officer was 'trapped' and suffered significant head injuries during the attack by Roberts.

She pleaded guilty to four counts of misconduct in public office in 2021 and was sentenced to three years in prison.

Aisha Golsby

Prison officer Aisha Golsby was jailed after tipping off an inmate at HMP Portland about a cell investigation. Golsby, 23, had begun dating Deano Harrison, who was in prison for theft and drug trafficking.

Between June 2021 and March 2022, Golsby communicated with Harrison via social media and text messages using two different cell phones. She failed to report that Harrison was in possession of the phones, despite being required to do so by prison staff.

Between January 28 and January 29, 2022, Golsby tipped Harrison off to an upcoming cell search, knowing he was in possession of the phones. She was given a 16-month prison sentence in August 2023.

Shania Begum

Shania Begum was caught having sex with a prisoner in a store cupboard at HMP Birmingham. The prison guard was put under surveillance after raising suspicions in the prison.

A secret camera was installed in a store cupboard which then filmed her behavior with inmate Joshua Mullings, ranging from flirting and 'heavy petting' to full intercourse. She ignored the work radio going off while she was with him and was once interrupted by a co-worker who said she had been gone for an hour.

The 25-year-old claimed she felt 'cherished' by Mullings at a time when she was agreed to marry another man who was said to be 'controlling'. Begum, of Hurleybrook Way, Telford, admitted misconduct in public office. She sobbed in the dock at Birmingham Crown Court, where she was jailed for 16 months on January 11, 2024.
