The Fall – Dallas Smith EP Review

By Phjoshua @thereviewsarein

Dallas Smith is back with new music to kick off the weekend, and the country music hit-maker has gone and done it again on The Fall.

Fans already know that the 2018 Canadian Country Music Association's Male Artist of the Year already went all the way to #1 with Make 'Em Like You and most recently, Rhinestone World. And now those same fans can add four more songs to their playlists with the release of the full EP from Mr. Smith.

Our only nitpick with the EP is we'd like more. There's a great balance on The Fall. There are #1 hits, there are bangers, there are slowed down sweet songs, and there are songs we can't wait to hear live, but if we're being honest about our selfishness, we'd have been more than okay with 10 tracks.

Along with the balance that Dallas Smith has put together on the EP, there's also a great flow. Every track makes its own impact, but when the six songs are done, you barely notice that you've been through the 19-minute listen. It's an underrated aspect of album making and one that should be celebrated when it's done well. And it is done well here.

Take a break and a quick look back at some of our favourite photos of Dallas Smith over the last 5 years.

There's a great treat on The Fall when you get to track five and Dallas Smith brings on Dean Brody and MacKenzie Porter for Friends Don't Let Friends Drink Alone. Not only are they great additions to the track, adding a fun layer to what is already a good song, but the collaboration offers a preview of the upcoming Friends Don't Let Friends Tour Alone tour. Dallas and Dean will co-headline, MacKenzie is coming along to play as well, and if you haven't looked into the dates already. You should now!

In the lead up to the drop (see what we did there?), Dallas posted through his socials about how excited he was to release this EP. It's the first collection of new songs the Langley, BC native has released since 2016's Side Effects and another shining example of his talent and place in the Canadian country music landscape. His excitement was great to see, it added to the excitement of his fans, and now, it's all paid off and The Fall is here!

Hit play on the album, sing along with the songs you already know, learn the words to the rest, and maybe you'll find yourself a new favourite Dallas Smith song. And after you've had a listen or two or three, leave a comment telling us which song(s) are at the top of your list.

Enjoy!
