Just a quick post to wrap up the 20 Books of Summer and to say thank you to Annabel for her excellent hosting. In the gaps between my sporadic bouts of blogging, WordPress always changes the features and functions and I have to figure out how to post all over again. This summer I have failed to learn how to link to my own posts without crashing the editing page. So, here’s just a plain list of the titles I read and reviewed:
- Yesteryear by Claire Caro Burke
- Whistler by Ann Patchett
- The Correspondent by Virginia Evans
- Based on a True Story by Delphine de Vigan
- Splinters by Leslie Jamison
- A Flat Place by Noreen Masud
- Red Rose, White Rose by Eileen Chang
- Slanting Towards the Sea by Lidija Hilje
- The Daffodil Days by Helen Bain
I also read Maggie Nelson’s The Red Parts without reviewing it. So ten books completed which I’m happy with. I was never going to manage the full twenty, it was just nice to have some choice. The challenge ends with me still reading The Benefactors by Wendy Erskine and The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston. I keep picking up Lea Ypi’s Indignity only to put it down again in favour of something else, so that’s probably not a good sign for that book.
Whilst I will finish the books I’m reading, I will stop reviewing for now. The Reading Room had its 20th birthday back in April and she’s a very old lady in blog terms and needs a rest. I know from experience that if I blog for any extended period I stop enjoying it. It was fun to take part in the challenge and I’ll be back next summer, and who knows whether a different challenge or a particularly stupendous or awful book will bring me back. In the meantime, I’ll still be reading all my blog friends. Here’s to fabulous books in everyone’s future!
