The Dior Homme Spring-Summer 2015 Collection in Review

By Attireclub @attireclub

Dior Homme’s creative director Kris Van Assche presented his spring-summer 2015 collection for Dior Homme during Paris Fashion Week in June 2014.

The collection displayed a cohesive aesthetic fitted for the modern man who likes classic pieces, but with a twist.

Kris Van Assche began his collection with a series of navy pinstripe suits. From classic cuts to edgy designs, the suits (one classic, one straight fashion and one more experimental) established the play between classic pieces and imaginative designs that would define this warm season collection.

The naval theme that inspired him for this collection was reflected in strong details, such as the grommeted fasteners that completed his looks. The collection continued with a series of looks that combined formal with casual pieces, which is something the designer is known to do so well. A strong nautical color palette that was inspired by Christian Dior’s passion for the sea was the main element that characterized his impressive pieces. Using colors such as strong yellow, red and deep blue, the designer presented an array of looks suited for a naval outing.

Continuing the homage to Christian Dior, some items of the collection featured words from a letter written by the designer and used his signature on the collar of the pieces. This print brought not only an air of nostalgia to the collection, but also a twist on classic essentials such as jeans or denim jackets.

Going full circle, the collection also contained scribbles-printed items that balanced out the stoic suits with which the collection began. This use of color and lines made the collection complete by adding a youthful and dynamic vibe to the sharply-tailored suits.

The best expression of this debate between the bourgeois and the free spirits was probably the completely unconstructed suit in denim paired with another suit in white unwashed denim, which however, was structured very sharply. This contrast was seen by Van Assche as a place where “different types of men could meet”.

Featuring everything from t-shirts, knitwear and tank tops, as well as creative boat shoes and big bags, the collection was a strong presence at Paris Fashion Week. Going from grounded looks to dreamy outfits, Dior Homme offered a fantastic lesson of sartorial excellence from which every man can learn that dressing well is an artful expression of one’s true inner self.
