The DeLorean Motor Company will create NFTs of their automobiles in the metaverse, according to patents recently submitted. The fact that these trademark applications were submitted on May 30 implies that DeLorean is developing autonomous vehicles for usage “in virtual worlds.”
Many automobile enthusiasts anticipate the addition of DeLorean Motor Company’s renowned DMC-12 model to video games. The DMC-12 is one of the most distinctive automobiles of the 1980s. It is most famous for its role in “Back to the Future.”

In contrast, DMC CEO Joost de Vries said in a recent interview with FOX News that his company’s NFTs would link to the forthcoming four-seat Alpha5 electric car. During the five years that the Alpha5 will be produced, DeLorean will distribute non-transferable tokens (NFTs) that guarantee ownership of one of these unique vehicles.
Each of the forthcoming Alpha5 NFTs, according to Joost de Vries, will be attached to a random VIN for the actual car of the NFT bearer. If after the mint someone does not want the VIN on their NFT, they will be able to exchange it on the secondary NFT market.
In addition to resembling Alpha5 automobiles in the physical world, these NFTs resemble virtual automobiles in the metaverse. The NFTs for the DeLorean, according to Joost de Vries, will be “playable” and compatible with numerous metaverse platforms.
The DeLorean patents also indicate that the corporation is developing an NFT market where users may purchase and trade virtual autos. DMC constantly states that their NFTs for automobiles are compatible with “virtual environments.” The corporation also said that it delivers “retail shop services” and “entertainment services” in the metaverse.
DMC believes the Alpha5 will be released in the summer of 2024. The Texas-based automaker also suggested that it was developing a luxury SUV and several more vehicles.
EVs provide “electricity” to the Metaverse
The DeLorean Motor Corporation may be the first to sell its electric cars (EVs) using non-fungible tokens (NFTs), but it is not the first company to market its EVs through the metaverse. In reality, the car industry is leaning toward virtual showrooms that provide buyers with a “sneak preview” of impending EVs.
Nissan, for instance, recently hosted an event in the metaverse on VRChat in which avatars could “drive” the company’s electric Sakura model. To display the ARIYA SUV, the Japanese automaker has created a digital replica of its “Nissan Crossing” dealership in Ginza.
With an NFT drop, Hyundai’s Kia Motors attracted notice on Kakao’s Klip Drops. The most recent series of six art NFTs from Kia demonstrated the company’s concern for the environment and sustainability.
Hyundai is a significant component of the ZEPETO metaverse. A few months ago, Rarity Sniper learned that Hyundai had constructed an electric vehicle charging station and an oil bank in this online game. Recently, BTS assisted Hyundai in displaying the IONIQ EV at its ZEPETO store.
Considering that electric vehicles (EVs) and Web3 are two of the most innovative businesses, it makes sense to merge these cutting-edge technology.
