Story: The Deliverance starts as meet Ebony (Day) a single mother of three children, Andre (Jenkins), Nate (McLaughlin) and Shante (Singleton). They live with the born-again Christian grandmother Alberta (Close) as Ebony tries to turn her life around. The daily struggle is real, but things start becoming complicated when strange events occur around the home.
Ebony or Alberta can explain what is happening and social services are keeping a close eye on the children. They turn to the local Rev Bernice (Ellis-Taylor) to help fight an evil spirit. It becomes a battle that tests everything they have ever known.
Verdict on The Deliverance
The Deliverance is a horror thriller following a family whose hard times become increasingly difficult when an evil possesses the home. It becomes a battle to escape what they want and remain together.
This movie tries to bring the same magic ‘The Conjuring’ had to another story of a family plagued by something evil. It spends more time focusing on the family’s struggles and past which could play a factor. This holds back most of the horror and keeps most of it feeling tame for the standard we have come to expect. The only things which come to light more is how nobody wants to believe that evil could be connected and it does everything to make sure it isn’t an exorcism.
