The Crafty Fox Taphouse + Pizzeria: Now Open!

Baconator Pizza:
Tender Belly bacon 3-ways: hop sugar bacon, pepper bacon, herb bacon, sour onions, jalapeños, red sauce

The Crafty Fox Taphouse + Pizzeria opened its doors on Saturday, February 20th, to a crowd of curious and excited customers. Among those eager to see what this brand new establishment had to offer was–of course–me. The moment I first heard about The Crafty Fox I knew it was a place I’d likely fall in love with, given that its name contains two of my favorite words: “Taphouse + Pizzeria.” I stopped in a few days after it opened to experience it for myself.

Some of the taps on one side of the bar

I was immediately impressed with the beer selection. With 60 taps, there are plenty of local options from breweries such as Crooked Stave, Epic, Avery, Black Shirt, Caution, and Fiction (just to name a few), plus numerous others from all across the country, including Ballast Point, Breakside, Jolly Pumpkin, Russian River, and far too many others to mention in this post. For all the details check out their live beer list for up-to-date information on what’s currently available. I ordered a custom flight of 6 tasters, as it was impossible to pick just one. Once I had a few minutes to try out my beers, it was time to order some food.

Caponata Bruschetta:
grilled eggplant, tomato ragout, feta

I was intrigued by the fact that the pizza dough is made with spent grain and wort thanks to a partnership with local breweries Diebolt and Epic. And the beer-infused fare doesn’t stop there; other items made with beer ingredients include the House Salad with hoppy honey mustard dressing, Spent Grain Raisin Cookie and Garlic-Garlic-Garlic Bread (if you choose the wort butter).

In addition to dishes that are made with ingredients used during the brewing process, The Crafty Fox uses Epic Brewing’s Tart N’ Juicy Sour IPA to create the “sour onions” on the Baconator pizza, as well as in the sweet n sour beer sauce, which is one five sauce options for the Crafty Chicken Wings.

Build Your Own Pizza with black olives, jalapeños and Swiss cheese

My guest and I thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried. The Caponata Bruschetta was a welcome change from the tomato-basil variety that I usually find. My guest loved the Baconator, which is one of the specialty pizzas. And my veggie pizza was delicious! As a vegetarian (and a picky one at that), I really appreciate the “build your own” option. The menu also contains a handful of salads and sandwiches, and a kids’ menu is available too.

If you’re looking for a place with a huge selection of excellent beer on tap, great food, and a fun, welcoming atmosphere that is sure to appeal to craft beer lovers and families alike, check out The Crafty Fox.
