Story: The Commander starts when Salvatore Todaro (Favino) takes his men on their latest submarine mission. At the height of World War II, they must navigate the ocean to reach their targets. They are prepared for anything, and his soldiers are prepared to make sacrifices for the greater good.

The mission tests the soldiers as supplies run low, leading to them needing to maintain their unity to fight back. However, his style is unlike others, and he shows mercy to save human lives when he defeats an enemy.

Verdict on The Commander

Recap

The movie follows a mission from Captain Salvatore Todaro and his men during World War II. He navigates his soldiers around hazards in the water, ruling his men in a way unlike anyone else. We follow this latest one where he shows his human side during a war.

Best Parts

The mission shows that not everyone was willing to kill everyone they came in contact with. A human side is important even if they are fighting on different sides. This is the key side of the story and shows what people were willing to do to stop the bloodshed. We do get great performances throughout the movie and the contained environment shows the conditions the crew would work through.

Worst Parts

The one side that feels more negative, comes from the lack of conflict involved. It shows the aftermath and the tension that could start it, but everything is held back from the bigger battles.

Final Thoughts The Commander is great at showing calm despite the conflict.
